Purchased
When it comes to eyebrow products I like to use either powders/pomades (to add volume and overall thickness) and finish up with a pencil (it offers more precision) but if I am short on time, most of the times I will just go with a pencil alone.
I've been using NYX Micro Brow Pencil for quite some time now and it's probably one of the few products I keep repurchasing over and over and over again. I like it because it's affordable and it does the job but from time to time I am certainly being drawn towards new products often wondering if the higher price tag will make any difference. Over the years I've tried many different high-end pencils from brands like Kevin Aucoin, ABH, and most recently Benefit Cosmetics.
The thing about the entire Benefit Cosmetics collection that really got me were the overall raving reviews particularly about how awesome the best-selling Precisely, My Brow Pencil is so I got it along with Gimme Brow Gel as a part of Boss Brows, Baby! Set ($34) which also came with a super cute custom ban.do makeup bag.
Packaging
I am a sucker for pretty packaging but let me tell you, working with this funny-looking shiny thing around a very curious toddler was quite the challenge but although the theme is not entirely my kinda jam, I still think the packaging is unique and quite different. When you compare NYX Micro Brow Pencil side by side with Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil the NYX one looks a bit plain but at the same time, it's way cheaper and takes a little bit less space.
Price Comparison
NYX Micro Pencil cost $10 (currently it's on sale for $7 on Ulta) offers 0.003 oz of the product while Benefit Cosmetics retails at $24 and only has 0.002 oz of product.
My Review & Final Thoughts
The most significant difference between these two aside from the packaging would be the brush that both pencils come with. Benefit Cosmetics has, in my opinion, a slightly better brush that I really like using and prefer it over the one that comes with NYX Micro Brow Pencil. The NYX one is not bad at all it's just Benefit one seems sturdier and just brushes hair better in my opinion.
Both pencils work great because they are very precise so drawing small hair strokes as well as filling your eyebrows, in general, is an easy task. Both brands offer various different shades to suit your brows, with Benefit recently releasing even more of them which is super exciting.
The biggest thing and essentially a deal-breaker for me was the longevity. You see I have this sparse spot on one of my eyebrows that I always have to touch up throughout the day because no matter what pencil I use it still won't stay there long enough (same with powders). I've had high hopes for Benefit but it didn't make any difference in my touch-up routine which basically made me think of going back to my NYX pencil once I run out of this one. Why? Simply because of the affordable price. If Benefit was at the same price range as NYX I would consider possibly switching to it because I like their brush a bit better but overall texture and long-lasting power I would say it turned out to be close to exactly the same.
